2017 Martin Season Begins

February 1st, and the earliest ever by at least 7 days, an ASY male arrived. He was joined by another male just this morning, the 2nd. Dreary, chilly, rainy weather outside, typical Louisiana winter, after being in the 70's the last few days. I got crickets in last week and they were separated and bagged up and ready. I thawed out one bag (warm water) and stepped out onto my porch with them. The cue before was always when I would raise my hand over my head, they would fly towards me and both these birds remembered. I find that totally amazing, and both caught tossed up crickets right above me.
It needs to be noted that small as they are, their memory behavior goes way beyond just finding their way back to your yard. I certainly couldn't find my way back from Brazil.
