You are already using it according to my martins. I pre-nest with pine needles and they bring in oak leaves to add to the pine needles.

I also pre-nest with pine needles. I've used pine needles from large home improvement stores, but no longer. I did'nt like how dry and old they felt. So I returned to good old fashioned racking up pine needles from a nearby pine tree. The Martins love the fresh pine needles! They also bring in leaves from oak trees. This is a picture of my DIY bed and breakfast. The second picture is of my newly improved bed and breakfast on a telescopic pole for this season. Good luck everyone!
