- Martin Colony History: 2016 - built a birdschoice 12 and mounted it June 16/ 2016 ....Hopeful.
Hello to all. Been interested in this for a while . I finally pulled the trigger on a birds choice 12 for my first. Hope I'm not too far south for success. I haven't seen any colonies where I live (one mile north of Gulf of Mexico) but a farmer 8 miles north of me was successful with natural gourds on a line. I don't have fw in my yard but there is a large fw lake about four miles west of me. There are plenty of flying insects down here so food would never be a problem. Wish me luck!

Thanks. I'm a bit OC when I start a new project. I hope I don't become a bother asking questions and posting tiresome noob stuff. I sure hope that the large trees in my yard aren't too much. I have only one spot that 's open enough so I have begun the pole mount there. My trees are the first ones they would see after crossing the Gulf of Mexico if Orange Beach happens to be "landfall" for some. I would think after that crossing they would land asap for a rest. Makes sense to me.

I got my pm house put up yesterday(6/16). Trees almost surround it though they are at least 30' away and it is about 40' from my house. I think this may be a real long shot but since there seems to be no other pm houses or gourds around I may get lucky? I do already have a spot closer to town that is city property and a perfect location....large empty field with a small lake on one end. I plan to approach city council later as time allows.
Is there any point to play recorded pm song this late in the season considering I am on the southern coast? I expect that no PMs would even be around this area ....maybe later July ? Any suggestions?
