This was the first gourd rack I had to fill up in 2016. In 2012 I only had one pair of Martins and fledged 3 birds. In 2016 so far I have 65 pairs. Love My Birds. Bluetick

I wanted to tell this story and then I will quit posting for a while. I had a pair of tree swallows trying to build in gourd 46 so I tried to move them 75 feet from the martin colony. I drove this piece of pipe in the ground. The gourd porch was only 7 feet 6 inches from the ground. The tree swallows never moved but two days later a pair of Martins took up house keeping and have laid their eggs in this single gourd. I had to put a perch on it and go buy a piece of duct pipe to make a guard for it. I couldn't believe it when they moved in. Bluetick

Bluetick that is an awesome picture!!!! I still had that single SY male on the one rack this morning. He's been here going on three weeks. I take it he's not going to find a mate. I hope he returns next year as an adult and the females will be much more receptive in mating with him.

Females are so finicky! I don't think they like a colony with no birds! My fake colony has not convinced them to stay here yet!
Bluetick and others started with a very lucky pair so it does happen! They are saying an ASY male (Fred) will find a mate but I had one here in 2014 for 6 weeks and no female stayed with him! I'm like Tim from Iowa they need to be paired and looking for a new site together. Then that female may stick! We'll get there. Keep talking about it and the pain goes away. You want it as bad as I do so we have to keep at it! :)

Good luck to Sharon and Mitch. It took me a long time to get Martins but I have caught fire in this my 5th year of having them. I may put up one more gourd rack. I love the pair in the single gourd. Dave
