I'm a first year PM enthusiast/landlord here in TX and have one pair of SYs with three babies that I am doing my best to help them survive.

Three mornings ago I had about six martins show up, at least two are ASY males. They revisit the house frequently throughout the day. One male has claimed a spot and he seems to be trying hard to get a mate. He sits and calls and clicks. He's had visitors but they haven't stayed.

Is it unusual to have an ASY looking around this late in the year? I wonder if they came from another house that got attacked. It took him awhile to enter the SREH hole. House is a Trio - grandpa I think, with SREH holes and converted 6x12 spaces.

Some of them dive at the house and squawk. There is a decoy still on top of the house - could that be preventing females from staying?

This sure is interesting and entertaining- I'm thoroughly hooked :)

Glad I saw your post. I have an ASY male here that has claimed a compartment in one of the Trios. He is singing as if he just arrived. I think he has a chance to get a mate. I haven't had any Martin's using the hole he chose.

Forgot to mention, if you have baby Martin's at your site the females should get used to the decoys. A couple of my Martin's hiss at the decoys. No biggie.

Welcome to the forum, Southern Yankee! Seems like we all "get hooked" pretty quickly on these purple birds! Good luck with your babies and the ASY males. Keep us updated.
