For those of you with major sparrow/starling problems, you might want to consider a v top trap. I seldom hear any sparrows at home and when I do I go after it relentlessly until I get it. I trap all year long with various traps but do like the v trap for major removal. I have a large farm about 1 1/2 miles north of me that feeds a lot of trash birds. Across the street is another barn which provides housing. I have permission from both owners and put the trap next to some bushes between the two. According to Andrew Troyer I will get massive amounts once babies start leaving the nests so next year should be quieter still. I've already caught 45 sparrows in the last few weeks. I just keep them fed and thin them out every week or so. I get mainly sparrows where it now sits but have released three white crowned sparrows and a red winged blackbird. From what I read I suspect some of you should give this a try.

Hey Peter, been doing the v-top thing since 2005 here at home and at neighborhood farms and hog confinements within a 5 mile radius of our colony. I trap starling all winter and sparrows in the summer. This trap has been very effective. We do not have very many starlings left in northern Mahaska County Iowa!! It's great to see someone getting the results I have for the last 11 years, I truly believe if 3 or 4 people in every county trapped them like you and I have been we could drastically reduce the numbers. Keep up the good work!!!!

Sincerely
Lynn H

Thanks, Lynn. I agree. So far I've gotten two other farmers who have v top traps. It will be interesting to see how things are next year. I talked to a dairy farmer who milks over 2000 cows and he got a permit from our DEQ, then had USDA come in and poison at their farm. They got 20,000 sparrows, starlings and pigeons at that one farm. How would you like to live near that?!! Awful!!!

Peter,

A happy picture like that always cheers me up! Keep up the good work.

I live in a rural suburb surrounded by mushroom farms, so I can keep the population in check by shooting and the crows are trained to police up the bodies!
