I trapped my first HS in a nest box this morning!! Last evening, i emptied the house(for the umpteenth time), on the side of my garage that i cannot see. I then decided to take that box down and put the one up that my nest box trap aligns with the entrance. I put some of the nesting material into the trap, and by 730am this morning, the female was caught!
I know people have talked about how the males are more difficult to catch. I was wondering about putting a second nest box trap next to the first. That way if i capture one of the pair, its calls may lure the second one in, even if a bit suspicious. Sort of like a bait bird in a V trap. Any thoughts on this. maybe its been suggested before.

2014 Nothing
2015 1 Breeding pair. 4 hatchlings
2016 Cold wiped out Martins

If you know that it is HS that are going in, try a mouse glue trap.
I have caught pairs with them in bluebird houses. And trapped with them in Martin housing when they were going in and out.

Generally I have found that if the male has truly bonded with that compartment, he will eventually go in. Looking for her, if not for any other reason. He's the one you want to get.
