This is the dark SY male! I never saw the other one today. But this one came today with a female. As you guys see in the pictures!!!

And here is a picture of just the female he showed up with! (ASY or SY?).

- Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.
There you go! Congrats!!

First house was plastic with crescent holes Had martins within a few days. Ignorant landlord gradually lost them
Then got Trio House and still lost most of them. Lots of sparrows
Kyler Where did you get the Trio door with the trap inside? I made a hole that size out of plastic lid taped to a round hole door. This looks like a manufactured small round hole door. Just curious. Was there a Sp inside?

Okie,
The manufactor that makes the trio houses here is the web site http://www.naturehouseinc.com. It is called a spare-o-door. They work really well! I have maybe one pair of sparrows left I have to get!

Thanks Kyler, I had read about the spare o door but did not know what it was. Can't say that anymore can I
For 1 to 2 days
It does not last. I eliminated the 22 that had lived at my place for years. 2 days of silence. But now I am up to 34 eliminated. Temporary silence but now there is another male inspecting the house and 2 females feasting at the ground trap.
Hope you have better experience but I am beginning to think every one we trap is a drop in the bucket.
I look at it this way. For the 14 females trapped I have eliminated 168 sparrows! My math may be off but if they raise 4 broods in a year and 3 eggs in each brood that is 12 young for each female. Times 14 females so far equals 168 sparrows which will never be
Good luck But don't stop Keep at it. Enjoy your posts

Okie,
Hey no problem!
I got so mad this morning because I saw a sparrow take my SY male to the ground!!!!
So, I have to get them out of here. Its just kinda hard with school and all that! I don't want to set the trap in catch a native bird you know? But I guess I might have to!
Thanks!!

I would use a pellet gun if I was you. Not much noise and won't startle them. Since you have martins already.
I do not shoot the shotgun when martins are around. You'll notice that when you shoot them they are real shy about stopping by! You will have to rid them someway or they'll peck eggs, kill babies ect.
My sun shots a pellet gun and he has martins and they just watch the sparrow drop to the ground. He has about 10 pair. They don't seem to mind. I think they know you did it for them!
Good luck Kyler

Hey thanks! All of them came back tonight to roost so I don't think they really mind the grass stuff the sparrows put in there. But always im really going to be on them tomorrow. To try to eliminate them.
I wish you luck this year and I hope they show up soon. You have told me many things that I didn't know about them. So, I think you deserve to get some. GOODLUCK!!!!!

Sharon,
This is a little better picture!! Im pretty sure it is ASY female! This is the one with my SY male. Its really weird, I mean she is really loud when she comes in for a landing. She kind of acts like the males! They are really loud!!

And also this is a couple pictures of my houses!

She looks like an ASY Kyler. I see some darker areas by her tail. If you can get a picture of the underside of her tail that would be great! She's happy that's why she's loud!
