I was wondering if anyone has used the oyster shells
from pmca and if they have been used by the martins?https://www.purplemartin.org/forum/post ... e=post&f=2#
The martins here don't seem to care for them at all.

Martin Colony History: Started with 2 pair in 2014 - 7 eggs -7 fledged

They might be too large for the martins to fell safe using them. I feed oyster shell to my martins but I have to crush some of the pieces up to make them small enough for the martins and other songbirds to use.

2015-1 pair -Both ASY- 6 eggs-5 fledged
2014-2 pair- 1 ASY-M/SY-F-1 ASY pair - 7 eggs-7 fledged

Oyster Shells:
I put them out the last 3 years but really did not see the Martins pay much attention to them.
I have also put out egg shells the past 3 years and the Martins Always go to the egg shells and carry them off.
Will closely observe the Oyster shells this year and see what happens. Also have egg shells out too.
2012- nesting pair 5 eggs, 4 hatched, 4 fledged.
2113-2015- Lots visitors- NO Nesting Pairs.

I bought a bag of crushed oyster shells and put them on a feeder and I saw martins picking through and finding certain size pieces and ether eating them or bringing them to there babies.
