Well, the pole is up, but I probably won't raise the T14 and gourds for a few more weeks. (I'm waiting for a pair of visiting bluebirds to move in to the box nearby.)

We have some pretty strong winds going on right now which has me wondering...what steps should one take during high, gusty winds or in the face of an impending storm? Is it prudent to lower the house? My concern is more about maintaining integrity of the pole and house...I assume the martins should be ok as long as their housing is intact?

Thanks in advance!

Lower the house is about the best thing to do. DO NOT lower it at night, rather lower it during the daytime. The martins will use it when it is lowered.

I just lowered my T14 too 8ft, strong storms headed to central TX. I hop on a six foot ladder and put a wood wendge between the round pole and the house to keep it from turning back and forth in the wind. The lower the house is, the more it will want to spin on the pole. Good luck
