Hey Dallas,
Sorry for your loss, but maybe your Martins will bring some happiness to you and remind you of your mother. My mom and dad passed back in 1998 - two days apart. Dad passed on Oct 31st and Mom followed on Nov. 02 of 1998. It was a very sad time for me and my family. My Dad really loved the Martins and Mom loved the Blue Birds. I try to take care of both species. My parents are gone, but I will never forget them and the influence they had on my life.
Hope you have a wonderful 2016 season. We will keep you in our prayers.

So Sorry for your loss. Just lost my dad last May, the day before my birthday. Still hurts, but I know he is happy. My dad also taught me the love of animals. Got to love those parents

I think about my Dad every time I sit in my back yard to enjoy my martins, because the pole I am using is one that my Dad salvaged from the oilfield years ago!!! He and mom had success with martins when they lived in the country but when they moved to the city, they took the house and pole with them, but had no luck.Too many trees and such. After dad passed in 2008 of Alzheimer's my husband dug the pole up and brought it to our house and altered the pole to be able to winch the house down and built several houses including the 20 cavity house we have now!! Colony has flourished and I know Dad is smiling down !!!!!

Dallas,
Just hang in there, it does get better. You never forget your parents, but in time the pain does ease somewhat.
My wife's mother is 97, will be 98 April,01. Had Heart attack 3 weeks ago and was hospitalized for a week. Just last Thursday she had another one at home. EMT was called and they say you could hear her praying for Jesus to "Please Let Me Die".
Death is something we all have to expect one day. It will come for all of us, some sooner - some later....
God Bless, Rodger

- Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.
I am so sorry you lost your Mom. I lost Dad in Feb 2014 and the PM's were just around the corner. You are right. They do lift your spirits and it is a sure sign that it is the circle of life and good days are ahead too. I lost my mom last August, more suddenly than Dad and I know any ol day now I will have that life renewal once again in my yard. Take care.
