EARLY scout arrival Flora, MS (west central MS)!
Feb. 1, 2016 - lone martin flying over housing site as I was placing the nest trays for the new season… martins typically arrive at our site in mid March with the earliest being late Feb. This was an unusually warm day so I chose to set trays in Lone Star Alamo while the weather was nice. I planned to leave in hole stoppers and not raise house yet, then I heard that familiar sound! …and there circling overhead was a martin!!! (male or female not sure?) I could not have been more surprised, so I unstopped most holes and raised the house! I briefly saw (from a distance) this martin on a perch rod the following morning, but have not seen since….

Hey Debba,
That's great news to hear. They say the birds are coming in all over about 2 weeks early. My scouts usually get here in south central North Carolina the first week in March. If the Migration holds true that means I might start seeing Martins in about 2 or 3 weeks.
Wish you Luck for the 2016 Season.
