Not my martins, but Bluebirds! I've had steady activity for the past several days, so I think I'll have them nesting this year. HOSP are being actively controlled, so I am pleased to see the early activity from the Eastern Bluebirds this season. I've had them nest every year since 2011. I hope the tradition continues.
I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Purple Martins here!
Here is an image of the female bluebird. She has had two males courting her.
Same here Chuck. Seems like the last few days they are everywhere. I have three Bluebird houses up across my property and have for the last two years. Have been successful with two of the houses both years with two hatches in both both years. I have moved the other one a couple of times and think I have finally got it in the right spot. They are so much fun to watch along with the Martins.
Good luck this year!
Yes, I love this time of year! I am fairly confident I will have another nesting pair of bluebirds this season. They really like my Purple Martin housing too, but they can't get in the gourds. It's like they know the martins will be back soon too.
