LAST YEAR I LOST ONE GOURD WHEN A BLACK SNAKE GOT AROUND MY NETTING . I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT I DID A NEST CHECK SOON AFTER AND FOUND THE SNAKE BEFORE IT WENT ON TO OTHER GOURDS. I'M LOOKING INTO USING THE ELECTRIC SHOCK METHOD OF PROTECTING MY TWO POLES NEXT SEASON BUT I'M WONDERING IF THIS WILL HARM THE SNAKES. I USUALLY RELOCATE SNAKES COUGHT IN THE NETTING. ANYONE HAVE SOME PAST EXPERIENCE AND ADVICE ?

No, it will not harm the snakes because they are too large. The largest thing that a strong electric fence could harm would be a small lizard that is unable to move away from the wire. The fence will not harm small dogs or cats, but it will repel them and keep them from going near the fence. I think that is the very best method for predator control. You can even purchase a solar powered fence if you do not want to run underground wires for a large distance, but I have not tried the solar powered method.

I purchased a cheap charger, but it did not last but 3 years. I then bought a better charger and it has worked for many years. I purchased some underground wire and ran that wire to all of my poles, so you need only one charger.

Thank you Emil. I will check into the solar type since I may have to go under a sidewalk between the house and poles. Thanks for your reply--if it works for your giant size colony it should keep my 19 families safe.
