Two ASY females in Melbourne, FL

I just went out to feed some visiting ducks and first heard, then saw, an ASY female on the top perches of my gourd rack! She is with another female who hasn't landed yet, but flying around doing the typical flyby's for a new arrival. 64 degrees here, very nice weather. With all that southerly wind we have had for a good week or so, not surprising we have martins in Florida now. Good luck to all of you this season.

- Martin Colony History: 2017 Had a lot visitors no Matins nesting, hoping 2018 will be different.
2018 Had 1 pair
2019 had 30 pair

Steve R, sorry, didn't see your post until just now when I replied to James and Louise.
Well, speaking of looking at the skies, I retired at the end of June this year, and it is all different, and very nice now. I can do things at my leisure and it makes all the little jobs more fun than ever. I am looking up all the time now....

- Martin Colony History: I started trying to attract Purple Martins in 2011. I got my first breeding pair in 2013.
2013-1 pair, 2014-4 pair, 2015-8 pair, 2016-12 pair 60 babies :-).
I'm pleased to see them coming in! I'll be expecting mine in about 8-10 weeks.

- Martin Colony History: Started trying to attract purple martins in 2012! It's finally happened in 2017! 5 years!!! ASY male and SY female came May 1st, fledged 5 babies!
I want to put my poles up now!!!!! All this Martin talk is making me so anxious!

Great news the migration is on. Not to be excited, but it will be good to see them return. Hard to resist but it will be February when I put my poles up. Wouldn't want any Martins coming now anyway we're still in the middle of winter here in NC. Got down to 17 degrees last night.
