Mixture of real and Plastic Gourds
3 weeks ago we had couple pairs finally set up shop at our yard and take
interest which was great as we have been trying for few years with no success. Unfortunately we had to leave on vacation for 2 weeks and just
returned yesterday and see we have 2 nests with 1 of the nests with eggs.
2 eggs look normal 1 looks dented. I did not spend much time looking in the
gord as they were flying and chirping overhead.
My main question is what to do next. Do I check the eggs and do something with them? Or is their nothing to do at all
at this stage in the game.
Sincerely

Congratulations on having eggs in the nest. Is the egg cracked, as in broken? with stuff coming out. I had an egg like that last year and the pair rejected all the eggs and started over laying new eggs. They raised that brood. If there is stuff coming out of the egg, I would take it out of the nest, if not, I would leave it alone.
Usually the culprit of cracked or broken eggs are house sparrows. Do you have any around? are you trapping or shooting? If you would like some help with sparrows, check this out. http://kathyfreeze.blogspot.ca/2015/02/ ... s-for.html

Thanx for the reply-- yes , rechecked nest 1 was broke so discarded that 1 --- have been shooting and trapping HOSP when I can.
So, it looks like all I need to do at this point is just keep an eye on the nest for now?
If we get hatchlings then I assume more work is involved?
Sincerely
