Hi,
This is my first year trying to attract some PM's. I am in SE Penna. residential area with a large farm bordering me and a large lake about 1/2 mile away. I am barely within the min distances on borders etc. but i was wondering if I should keep trying this year and in years to come or not waste time to undesirable location. House placement is marked on map pic.
What do you all think?
Thanks
Joe
I am having trouble uploading from google maps....Sorry I'll try to attach when i figure it out....

Hi Joe, when you have your Google map up, just right click on the address bar, the address bar changes color, on mine it turns blue, then click on copy. Then come back to the forum page and right click again and then paste. Presto. you have now pasted a link to your Google map.

- Martin Colony History: Several colonies with in 6 mile radius.
Have had visitor every year 2014-24.
Two large trees removed in fall 2024 and moved T-14 to a more open location.
2025- 1 SY pair. Fledged 2.
I am a newb like you and am in my second year of trying to attract martins, so i can only tell you what i have read. I do not think it is too late and most definitely, keep the house up. Even if you do not attract a pair this year, when birds fledge from other colonies nearby, the youngsters may take note of your location and drop by next spring. I didn't see a martin at my site until June 22 last year and haven't seen any this year, and am still hopeful. Till they decide to appear, keep the starlings and sparrows away. Good luck!

2014, 1st year-a few lookers, no nests
2015-23. Visitors each year. But no pairs.
2024- most active year. 2-4 SY male’s hang out most days.
2025, 1 SY pair. 2 eggs, 2 fledged!! Other martins visited daily.
Still eliminating starlings and sparrows.

Hey I live about 5 miles outside of Reading, if you can figure out the problem with the pic and post one that would really help. This is my first year to and I am in the EXACT situation as you (barley meet space requirements) but I would really love to see a pic
Good luck to all of us!!!

It is the house with the blue tarp at top of driveway. PM house location is on left side of house not quite centered but a little closer to hedge row and pine trees due to my on site septic system i am restricted to where i can place anything on that side.
