This lousy cold weather in northern Illinois! No SY birds at our location...Has anyone in northern Illinois seen any yet?

- Martin Colony History: Trendsetter-8. Set up in 2014 at my summer cottage, a beautiful natural inland lake in N.E. Indiana's Amish Country. T-8 is on cleared land behind my pole barn and adjacent to a farmer's field
2015: Had several flyovers in early June with 1 dedicated SYM visitor who visited each day for well over a month. He brought by a few PM "parades", with 8-12 PM's who would visit all at once, but soon leave. (Added 2 gourds to bottom of the T-8). We discovered a large (Amish) colony apx. 3/4 mile South of our T-8. We think this will eventually be our "feeder" colony.
2016: Put up a Trio G'Pa lakeside. Overall, not as much interest as 2015, likely because of our vacation to Gulf Shores, AL. in early June.
2017: Finally switched over to wheat straw. Success!! One nesting pair. Fledged 4!
2018: Zilch.
2019: Slow start, nothing observed by mid June. Wet, cold Spring a factor??
2020: Barely any sightings.
2021: Several observed high in the sky, eating. No interest so far!
Hi Maryanne! My (vacant) site is in N.E. Indiana, along the Indiana/Michigan State line. I haven't seen any PM's yet this year. 
Yesterday, there were about a dozen or so swallows (Barn & Bank) putting on an aerial show for me all day long down along the lake. Non-stop for hours! Back & forth, up & down, feeding & tweeting. The wind was very strong out of the North, and with the dip in temperatures I wasn't too optimistic for new PM arrivals.
But. . . like Sara Evans sings. . . . The best days are coming, baby!

You guys should be careful what you wish for. Those teenage thugs can be real trouble makers with only one thing on their minds.

2015 24 gourds, 22 nests. Lotsa birds!
2016 24 gourds and good activity.
2017 32 SREH gourds. Great activity.
2018 40 SREH gourds. Good finish despite big storm damage. No more dangling gourds.
2019 56+ SREH gourds, all on 3/8 rods. Birds did very well.

Send those SY teenagers North! The prestigious Howe Military Academy is nearby, in town. That should straighten them out!

I've had a sy male here for 2weeks and now he has a female sy snuggled up in his house with him today ,this morning I had 6 new birds fly in and land at my site all at the same time,at about 7am ,whas a great thing to see
I think they were all sy but couldn't get a proper look as was to much action but def no adult males ,not sure if any are still here.as my two pairs are sat tight in there cavities as its so damn miserable at moment

I have one SY male and one SY female. The SY male is paired with an ASY female, and the SY female is paired with an ASY male. That is it for me so far. The rest of my 17 pair of birds are all ASY birds. My dad is trying to get his colony started only 5 miles to the north of me and he hasn't even seen a martin yet this season. So, we are ready for some more SY arrivals up here too. They seem to be in short supply at the moment.
