The HOSP's are arriving faster than I can shoot them and are killing all my other birds, especially tree swallows, in the nest boxes.
I have a repeater that catches the odd sparrow.
In the experience of those of you who have built Troyer style V top traps, is it worth the effort?
Will the big trap catch more sparrows?
Thanks,
JP

I think you'd be better off with some nestbox traps - the V-top is a bait trap that will likely work best in the winter months. There are traps that fit inside most martin houses, in gourds, and in bluebird boxes and gourds. Place the traps inside compartments that the sparrows have claimed and you can start controlling them more easily.

Louise is right, I built one an ended up using nest traps. The V trap works mostly when the birds are not in nest mode. The trap is easy to build, even a girl can do it
Good luck.
