In 2007 we lost our colony due to owl attacks. Every year since then we have raised the gourd poles. We thought we would never get Martins to stay again so we sold one of our poles. Friday we were visited by 4 sub adults. They decided they liked our set up and have stayed. Folks have said that once you lose your colony to owls, hawks, snakes, etc that you never get the Martins back. It's taken 8 years but they are here. We have put up Nite Guard lights and hope that everything will be ok. Sure is so nice to hear their song and watch them flying.
