Has anybody taken the plunge and installed a GoPro inside a gourd?
I'm seriously considering stepping up to the task. We lived for years with a wired nestcam, but running wires, etc. out to the pole is a pain.
Here's what I'm considering:
1. Adding an IR illuminator to a GoPro. Illuminator power will be a problem, but I'm think a small solar panel setup to recharge a 9V battery will suffice.
2. Adding an IR lens
3. Adapting the plans I've seen elsewhere here on this forum to install the camera inside a modified access cover cap
4. Investing in GoPro BacPac to get longer-lasting camera battery life so that I can reduce rack lowering to a minimum.
5. Also investing in a GoPro smart remote.
I should be able to use GoPro WiFi to stream the video to an iPad, or a VLC Media Player on a PC.
I don't see any way to cast the video to our TV yet, but we use a ChromeCast and I understand VLC 3.0 will support ChromeCasting.
Haven't spent a dime yet, though - still mulling. Any suggestions/comments will be surely welcome.
Thanks!

The only way I know you could look at the video is get the GoPro app on your phone, and get in range of the Wifi for the GoPro which for me is like 50 feet and look at the live video through your phone. Unless you could some how increase the range of the Wifi from the GoPro and have and a smart Tv where you could get the app on your Tv, I dont know any other way to get the video to your Tv with out wires. BUT you can get it on your phone once you get in range of the Wifi from the GoPro

Right, Zach.
I will have no problem getting the video streamed to iPhone, iPad, or Windows PC. (Apple also, I guess - I'm not active in that space).
And I'm willing to wait for VLC 3.0 to get the video ChromCasted to a smart Sony Bravia TV.
As far as WiFi goes, I'm hoping the GoPro has enough oomph to get through a single window and into the house - about 70'.
Just wondering if others have been thinking about doing this too, or have even done it already.

This topic is being discussed on the PMCA's facebook group, too - here's a link to youtube with gopro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkAgBND ... cation=ufi and the group, scroll down for discussion - if you are on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/groups/Prognesubis/ Starts with post & images from Ross Blanchard.
Nevermind. I looked at facebook link and obviously you can use GoPro for nest cam videos.
