Are Eurasian Tree Sparrows protected?
I have over past few years been having more and more coming to winter bird feeder. What I want to know is , Are they protected or not ? They do try to nest in bluebird boxes and martin houses and gourds .also destroyed a nest of martin eggs once. Tim m.

18 pair in 2017.
Might have state protection. Everything I've read suggest they are primarily in St. Louis.

Hey Tim. I read that they are only protected in one state and it is not Iowa. I have dozens of them at my feeders and once in a while will take one out.
They are cavity nesters but not nearly aggressive as House sparrows.

They are technically an invasive species. I assume that means they have no protection... but some invasive doves do.. I would consult some state officials.
