Today hasn't been a good day for me. First thing this morning we had to send our pug to doggie heaven and just now I had to do a purple Martin burial. First one to be lost to the weather. Female. So now only five are left. I'm not sure how much longer they can endure. I've placed mealworms at the entrances in hopes they will eat, but doesn't look like they are going for them.
:-(

Mother Nature can be beautiful but is equally as cruel. I want this bad weather out of here :!: :!:

Michael:
So sorry to hear of losing your dog and a purple martin too. Hard to deal with. I have lost a beloved dog so I know how you feel.
Would feeding scrambled eggs / crickets to the Martins work better.
Some landlords have good luck with the eggs.
I have never fed either as we don't yet have an active colony. Had one successful nesting 2 years ago. No luck since, I will keep trying.
You have our prayers. Good Luck.. Lewis/Joanne

Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

So so sorry. Yes these things are hard. Bless you for trying with the PM's and for loving your pup so much. Hang in there.
