Martin Colony History: Started trying to attract purple martins in 2012! It's finally happened in 2017! 5 years!!! ASY male and SY female came May 1st, fledged 5 babies!

Here in the Midwest we are frigid! All the long range forecast says an above average temperature this spring! It just sounds so good I had to share it! March still below average but it's so close! Hang in there it's coming!

Bring the nice weather and martins on!

Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas

It has started here 59/72 with a south wind bringing in the warm weather with scattered showers. But wait a few days, back to the frigid weather.

On the topic of cold weather last week my wife and I flew down to Tampa
Florida and then drove down to Venice where our daughter got married on the beach on Valentines Day. I l was rather surprised at how cold it was there was a steady north wind blowing the whole time we were there. Nobody lingered on the beach too long after the picture taking was done it was just too cold and windy.
We spent a lot of time driving around down there, put on over 800 miles on our rental van one of the things we did was go over to Arcadia for a air boat ride where we got see a couple of Alligators. I was greatly expecting to see a lot of bird life and some martins but did not see or hear a single one and not much for other birds either even on the Air boat ride. Maybe it was too cold and windy for a lot of birds to be out and about.
PMCA member and Martin fanatic....
2011 A pair of subbies fledged three young but none returned in 2012 :-(
2015 One Pair of subbies came and stayed a few nits but got chased away by Bluebirds and Tree swallows. :-(
2017 0ne pair of subbies nested and fledged 4 young
2018 Tree Swallows AGAIN chased away any martins that wanted to nest
2019 Same old story................ :-(
