Martin Colony History: I started trying to attract Purple Martins in 2011. I got my first breeding pair in 2013.

2013-1 pair, 2014-4 pair, 2015-8 pair, 2016-12 pair 60 babies :-).

My opinion is that there must be Purple Martins in MS! It's just that no one has reported any yet. I mean Alabama and Louisiana have them.

I have yet to see any and I live in South Louisiana. I usually don't see mine until about mid February. The house is up and I've added some straw and bug dust for them.

I usually put up my gourds 2nd week in February. For some reason, it seems that there are martins in Southaven before we get them in the Golden Triangle. I am sure there something about the flyway.

The last few years we have had a martin show up here between February 14 to February 21st. Glad to see them when they arrive but I sure don't like being out in freezing cold trying to feed them.

Was looking back at records for my area, and it's possible to see some around mid February here. I saw one last year on Feb. 17th according to my log. We'll see. The weather was actually colder here last year too.
