My neighbor in Broussard La (south La) has a 15 year colony and hasn't had a scout yet.
Yet there is a scout report way up in north La, Haughton. I find this hard to believe, but of course it's possible. The last time the guy reported from Haughton was way back in 2009 and it was for Feb.
Matter of fact the other two La reports are all first timers too.

- Martin Colony History: 2010-2014 located in Slidell LA. Gourd rack with 16 gourds. Max of 2 pairs during this short period in Slidell. Plenty of fledglings.
2014-present.. moved to Broussard LA. Same Gourd Rack but added a 6 room house (modified from a 12 room)
2020: after a long drought of nothing, 4 pairs and 4 nests, 23 eggs total.
6 fledges.
2021: 9 pair, 47 eggs
36 hatchlings
30 fledged
2022: about 12 pairs.. many eggs, all fledged.. only had one hatchling die.. probably because of our schnauzer. :(
2023: 16 pairs. So far about 60 chicks with about a dozen eggs to go.
2024: 13 pair. About 60 eggs
2025: 14 pairs .. 69 eggs.

I'm just glad so many new folks are reporting
2017 - Home & Public Colonies - 300 Cavities
In the last week or so as the weather warmed I have had wrens and some odd colored starlings come and check out my still nested gourds from last year. Have already seen a European bluebird too. I should get cold this next few days and I hope the martins are still way down to the south.
2014 8 gourds, 3 pairs nested. Ended w/ 24 total
2015 24 gourds, 22 nests. Lotsa birds!
2016 24 gourds and good activity.
2017 32 SREH gourds. Great activity.
2018 40 SREH gourds. Good finish despite big storm damage. No more dangling gourds.
2019 56+ SREH gourds, all on 3/8 rods. Birds did very well.
2020 56 SREH gourds.

Yep.. In the big picture, you can still good some good date out of reports, even with some incorrect reports.
In my area, south La. I'm surprised not to have seen barn swallows yet .. I'm used to seeing them earlier than martins.

As of 2018 - 84 cavities offered, max # of pairs hosted - 82.
Just because it's their first time to report on this site doesn't necessarily mean it's their first time to be a purple martin landlord.

Still a few weeks out here in cenla. Usually around the 17th of February for us and the firsts. Mine are due around the 21st...but we can always be suprised! I get antsy when the first sunshine day in the 60's comes around..but try to hold off on housing up till valentine's day...usually dont wait tho!!!!

Yes, definitely I agree... I wouldn't have thought twice to a first report for someone in the lower half of the state.. Especially SE Louisiana.
A report way up in N La is kiinda odd, since none of the regular established colonies have even heard the chirp. Like Thibodeaux , Shriever, Lafayette... Oops .. Scratch Thibidaux. Hahahah!
But its all close enough anyway. And its all fun and exciting just reading the reports.
This weekend will be clear and sunny.. Hoping to see a couple in the sky. My neighbor's 15yr old colony is overdue for a scout as well .
