Fort Myers, FL, landlord Jerry Yeomans reported an ASY male circling his gourd rack this morning! His site is 14 years old and hosts 47 pairs.

Martin Colony History: 2017 Had a lot visitors no Matins nesting, hoping 2018 will be different.

Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

I want purple martins for New Years. Oh wait. It's freezing here. Nevermind. I will wait.

Martin Colony History: I started trying to attract Purple Martins in 2011. I got my first breeding pair in 2013.

2013-1 pair, 2014-4 pair, 2015-8 pair, 2016-12 pair 60 babies :-).

I'm very glad to see the report! I'm counting the days until they make it to my area.

Martin Colony History: Started trying to attract purple martins in 2012! It's finally happened in 2017! 5 years!!! ASY male and SY female came May 1st, fledged 5 babies!

Ditto GregB! It's 36 degrees here, just north of San Antonio. March 15 will be just fine for me, and the martins! Luv the Happy New Year greeting on our Forum page! Thank you Webmaster/mistress!! :)

I'm in North Texas, near the Oklahoma border. (60 miles north of Dallas). The temp tonite is 32 degrees and light rain.

The PM's should avoid this area for at least the next six weeks. :cry:

Last year was the earliest arrival for me and resulted in me launching 10,000 crickets into the air with plastic spoons and slingshot.

I had 7 pair and went through about 1,500 crickets. But at least they are now trained to take them either flipped or from feeding tray which the parents used quite a bit to feed their young.

Martin Colony History: I moved to South Florida, from Delaware, in August of 2015.

I care for a 6 condo Sunset House as well as two Deluxe Gourd Racks, with 24 Chirpynest/Excluder gourds, along a canal in Pompano Beach, Florida.


At Quiet Waters Park, nearby in Deerfield Beach, I care for a Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 TVG's. I also care for a Deluxe Gourd rack with 12 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder entrances. I am substituting 6 Chirpynest boxes for 6 of the Conley II entranced gourds in 2026.

At another local park, Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, I care for a Trendsetter 12, 5 gourds rack with 60 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder Entrances and 1 Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 Troyer Vertical Gourds with Starling Stoppers over the Conley II's to keep out smaller starlings.

Every time I go down the drive here, James, to get out to Powerline Road I glance over to see if I see any birds sitting on the roofs of the canalside houses.

My friend Tim thought he saw a couple martins on the houses at the park but I imagine he saw two starlings. Could be martins this early but unlikely as that site has only had martins now for two years and they showed up last year in late March or early April.

Carl they could be here this early. Jose had them on Dec 30 and he is in Plantation. Mike has them in Melbourne, so they could be here.
