Season is over at my place also. The 3 barnies that were in the nest on my front porch fledged yesterday while I was at work. I had suspected a fledge party when so many were buzzing around in the morning.

Farewell, good luck, and hopefully see you birds next year.

Only a couple gourd plants to play with now.
2014 8 gourds, 3 pairs nested. Ended w/ 24 total
2015 24 gourds, 22 nests. Lotsa birds!
2016 24 gourds and good activity.
2017 32 SREH gourds. Great activity.
2018 40 SREH gourds. Good finish despite big storm damage. No more dangling gourds.
2019 56+ SREH gourds, all on 3/8 rods. Birds did very well.
2020 56 SREH gourds.

Nice job Tony!
My last nestling fledged Saturday, still seeing a few in the area.
Unusually late, typically all are gone by now.

So quiet here, too! The chimney swift mini-roost in our chimney has departed along with our last martins. The only thing to look forward to now is....
CLEANING OUT ALL THE GOURDS AND HOUSES!!! and I am delirious with joy about that, oh yes I am...right?

Actually what we are really looking forward to now is HUMMINGBIRD MIGRATiON - now that is FUN! should peak in about a month here on the coast.

Hey Tony,

Our martin season is finally over, too. I still had a few martin fledglings returning to roost as late as August 17 but I didn't see them come in last evening. That was the latest I have ever had martins roosting in my colony.

Now I need to start taking down my 300 gourds and storing them and lowering my houses. That will be a job!

I am real happy you had a great martin season!

Fantastic news, Tony! Wow! Over 500 fledges? Congratulations! Thank goodness they're gone now -with this horrible heat, right?

Every year when I'm done and I start the cleaning part, I trash all thoughts of growing my colony! Nope! Not me!

Ah yes, the cleaning part!! Last year it took me 3 days to clean everything. I took my time and it seemed to go pretty smooth. I don't have any plans of adding any more housing. thanks all!
