I completed my 3rd nest check of the season today, 6 days ago there were only 20 eggs. Todays nest check results ..... 67 nests with eggs, total egg count was 267. When I compare this to the same time frame last year there were only 12 eggs and about 5 nests with eggs, strange the ASY's are early nesting compared to last year and the SYs are late arriving.

I don't have eggs yet. However, I posted that my martins were slowly trickling in but no nest building was happening. Just after I typed that and went out to watch them they began to FRANTICALLY build their nests. I've never seen them work so fast. I'm happy but yet a bit sad as the season will FLY by if they quickly build their nests and fledge their young. Oh well.
I'm so happy that you have so many eggs. That is truly an amazing amount of eggs.
Good luck raising all those eggs into fledgling yougsters.

Very impressive numbers Ray! You have as many nests as we do eggs! I have not seen a dramatic increase in earlier laying this year as compared to last but I also did not have the quantity of nests from last year to this to really make a significant comparison.

- Martin Colony History: Had a colony many years ago which dwindled over a couple of years and then did not return. Kept trying each year for almost 20 years and finally had a small success in 2011 with two pairs nesting. Colony has grown slowly each year with 22 pairs in 2015. In 2016 my gourd rack of 18 gourds filled up so I added 4 more gourds and then put up a small rack of 6 gourds. All of those were claimed within a few days so I believe I have at least 25 pairs this year.
Outstanding nest check Ray! Those numbers are amazing.
Hope you have a Great Season.
