I have a martin with a purple white chest and has a quarter inch white stripe on the bottom of his tail. I keep trying to get a picture of his or her chest but it keeps turning on me. I hope I can get a picture of this bright white chested beauty.

Has anyone ever seen one like this?
thanks Dick

White stripe on bottom of tail, and white chest, sounds like Eastern Kingbird, a flycatcher that hawks insects in flight - is this your bird, Dick?

Yes! I have a SY male here that has a white chest black chin and black under it's tail. He doesn't have a mate so he keeps getting beat up

Martin Colony History: I started trying to attract Purple Martins in 2011. I got my first breeding pair in 2013.

2013-1 pair, 2014-4 pair, 2015-8 pair, 2016-12 pair 60 babies :-).

Sounds like something other than a Martin for sure.

I'd say no, they don't sound alike - but you can listen to sound clip on that ID link above - see what you think.

I have a pair of Kingbirds hanging around. They will fly up on the wire next to the martin housing and the martins always fly and land beside them. It is like they are best buddies.

I had one splashing into my pond just like the martins.

I have read that the king birds do not like hawks and are pretty much not afraid of anything, I was reading in a article that a king bird was chasing a small airplane
I see them around and have little fights with the martins. but never seen one get hurt.
here is the article I found it is rather long but at the chapter of there behavior it talks about a king bird after the airplane in the 1930s
