We have just switched from round to crescent doors on all systems except our Heritage Farms Quad Pods which are manufactured with a 1 and 2/16 crescent size. Two questions--Do you think Martins can negotiate that size? Remember that size is 5 percent smaller than 3/16.

Question 2 ..Has anyone had experience with taking out the 1/16 by grinding or sanding? the inserts are made of plastic...Thanks in advance. Chet Winger

Hi Chet.
I have definitely heard of other Quad Pod users finding the same - their Quad Pod crescent inserts being a hair too small.
I think that can definitely make a difference.
Here's a post from sometime back, from forum member "Sharon - Central TX", in reference to her Quad Pod crescents:

We use the crescents but the birds could never seem to get in. We measured them and they were just a tiny bit smaller than the recommended size so my husband enlarged them to the correct size. I have talked to another landlord who had the same problem. Also, we removed the internal baffles this year because in the past the birds seemed suspicious about not being able to see into the pods. I don't know if it was enlarging the entrances, removing the baffles or both but this is the first year they have been used (4th year of having them). We may put the baffles back in some of them next year and see if they will accept them now that they have used them.

Thanks Matt-I will PM Sharon to try and learn how they changed the crescent. Heritge Farms is one of the ones offered in the PMCA market place but the specs are not in line with forum thinking..

Winger,

I have the Heritage Quad Pods with the SREH and internal baffels installed. My martins have no problem with either. All pods have eggs at this time. My Troyer gourds filled up first, though.
