New Martin landlord (kinda) have a few ?

Tonite I had six martins show up 3 asy males and 3 asy females I think hung around for about an hour before 2 pairs (male-females) went into a gourd and into a room in the house a new trendsetter with srh holes and super gourds with Troyer tunnel and entrances but one pair is still on the porch cuddled up tried to go in but never made it what's with that so excited I know most new landlords get sy birds but I'm hopeful they will stay kinda strange they showed up in pairs and six at once right? Well any advice/experience would really help thanks

They definitely like your site! New ones coming at night is a really good sign. Keep an eye out during the next several days. It sounds like you have some new residents. If they leave then they were probably migrants.

It sounds to me like someone lost there purple martins and you got them.
Maybe there house was not there for them or maybe a predator caused them to move. I sure hope they stay for you.

the 2 that did not go inside did you see them trying? if so look and see when trying if the top of their back is bulging hitting the top of the entrance? I had a male one year doing that and had a mate he could not get inside but she was nest building. I changed shaved some from the top and then he got right inside. I think it is rare but sometimes you have a big martin. and a few years ago I gained like 22 adult martins. my colony grew with them not sy birds. 7 miles from me was a site I figured they came from. I went their and sure enough it was full with starlings only 2 adults and a few sy birds their. it is a rare thing also but happens. hope you take better care of them.

Well thus morning they were all still there had to leave for work and when I came home only one asy male was still there he has been on the house all afternoon hopefully his friends show back up soon but great to see him finite hoping this is my start to being a landlord very exciting and nervous time thanks for the replies

If it was cool outside the female and or others might of been inside trying to stay warm. It was 53 degrees windy damp here so I had to check one hole cause I saw feathers sticking out that weren't moving. When I reached to touch the martin another flew out and a total of eight martins where in that hole. They were staying warm.

Thanks Craig I was wondering that because he finally went into the same gourd the male and female went into last nite so I'm hopeful he would fly off and come right back

I sure hope at least some of yours stay. A couple nights ago I had a ASY pair spend the night in one of my gourds, only to exit the gourd at dawn the next morning, sit on the house and preen for a while and then leave. I was so excited only to be crushed when they didn't return.
