Our martin house sits no more than 10 feet off our back porch. I did put in a 17ft. pole so the house is over the roof line. So far we have doubled our pairs every year.

Although I am not an official landlord yet, as I have not fledged any martins.

Here is my current setup. As of now the newer rack in the front yard is getting all the attention. A ASY landed and checked it out for 2 days never stayed and is now gone.

Last year in late May I put my first rack up. There was a group of martins that would fly around, over and between the houses/trees next to mine VERY cool to watch! Some checked the gourds out but never stayed.

When I can home from work yesterday and walked into the back to start the grill there they were! Zipping around everywhere! 2 pairs! I dont know if they are the same ones or if they will stay, but I did see one land on the front yard rack! It sucked tho because we had a storm warning with 40mph gusts and 55 degree temps last night so I had to lower the rack....I am confident I'll be a official landlord this year.

I think this would/is a great idea for newbies as well as seasoned landlords to post a aerial view of your setups or purposed setups with distances posted....

My housing is about 20 feet from our house and has been very successful.

Martin Colony History: Started in 1992 From neighbors old 1950-60's colonies. Have 8 Trio 6 Room Houses, 4 MPP Poles, 1 Heath Deluxe Gourd with Troyer Porch, 8 NatureLine Gourds with Troyer Porches, 5 Troyer Horizontals ,& 2 S&K 11" WITH Troyer Porches ready for 2019 Season !

From looking at your photo, I like the spot RIGHT at the upper right hand Corner of the house's SHADOW! Looks PERFECT to me. Because I have all my openings on one side of each house, I have my 4 front, side yard houses facing S.E, into the summer wind. So my 4 houses are 3 feet from my own house and 30+ feet from a parll.row of pecan trees and right now I have 16+ pairs! Because like many say here, my P.Ms have a "Flight Alley" between the house & trees. Best of luck!, Anthony
