We did nest check today.

172 nesting cavities offered
No eggs found on this check
Found dead ASY male
157 nests - counted as nest if nicely bowled out or with bowl and leaves in nest.
We didn't add any leaves to nests when put up, just put pine needles in cavity.
Found tufted titmouse nest in gourd - no eggs present.
Added caulk to few porches that had areas of possible nail entrapment.
Replaced few lids on access ports that would not close good or broken places on lids.

Few of the birds remained in nest while we did nest check. Didn't disturb them. Guess possibility of an egg in the nest under the female.

Martin Colony History: I started trying to attract Purple Martins in 2011. I got my first breeding pair in 2013.

2013-1 pair, 2014-4 pair, 2015-8 pair, 2016-12 pair 60 babies :-).

Wow! Very impressive! Of my two pair, one has already started nest building. The other pair hasn't decided which gourd they want to use yet.
