banded martin

For the 2nd year in a row I have a asy male return with a nice shiney silver band on his right leg. My question is should I trap him to get the numbers and if so, who would I contact to give to give the information to. thanks.

They have banded martins for years at Glenn Mills School, about 60 miles to your southeast - that could be where this bird was banded. Many banders are using color bands now, but I believe Glenn Mills still uses standard federal band.

Martin Colony History: Started my Colony in 2008 with 32 gourds and one ASY pair. As of 2017 I had 106 cavities with 106 pair.

I reported a banded martin from my colony that had not come from my site at the following address:

www.reportband.gov/‎

They should be able to give you the background of the bird, if it was banded legally.

Glenn Mills banded 617 baby Martins in 2011.
That's a LOT of Martins!

I'll bet that is exciting to have a banded Martin!

thanks for the replies. Matt, I will let you know what I find. I will let him settle in for a while. I do not want to stress him to soon after his long migration. thanks again everyone for the replies.
