Came home from work today and I heard that wonderful chirp I instantly looked up and saw him sky diving to my racks. Then a female joined him. I watched tonight to see if they would stay. They both went in a gourd to stay the night. My season is now underway!
It's an awesome feeling seeing them again for the first time and hearing there song!
Mine are finally here!
I'm very happy for you Darryl and hope you have a great season. I had been checking the scout reports the last few days to see if yours had come in yet.

Thanks James! I hope the weather is good for them but I'm sure we will have some cold weather still to come. Hope you have a great season James!

- Martin Colony History: I started trying to attract Purple Martins in 2011. I got my first breeding pair in 2013.
2013-1 pair, 2014-4 pair, 2015-8 pair, 2016-12 pair 60 babies :-).
It tickles me how we take posession of these creatures (I'm also guilty). I wonder if they feel the same way?
I find myself wondering what my martins are up to all of the time they are around (or not).

Congrats Darryl! It's always exciting when that first one returns.

Chuck I love your thoughts. I also find myself wondering what they are doing. When I am here with snow and they are off where it is nice and beautiful. I can only imagine all the things they must see. And my best part of my year is the day I see my first Martin return. It is a good day.

Darryl -- I know the feeling of walking in the front door after a long trip. Just great to be back home. I'm sure your Martins feel the same way..
Good luck and have a wonderful year.
