im getting ready to put some sandy entrance tunnels on my supergourds. my concern is ,do i cut the hole below the ridge or do i cut the ridge out ? does anyone have any pics ?

You just center the hole in the middle, under the ridge. Your crescent or round hole is already in the middle, so you are cutting it out larger. This photo -- Larry Melcher's site -- shows front and side views of SGs with the four-inch diameter tunnels, but either four or three inch diameter you just place it in the middle and caulk around it. Cut your hole snug so the tunnel slips in tightly, doing a test hole first with a jig saw and then very slowly enlarging with sanding or a utility knife. John M

- Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas
I line up the tops of the tunnel and the old hole, and then draw a line around the outside of the new tunnel. Get out the Jig saw, and follow the line. Then caulk the tunnel into desired position.
The tunnel will make the entrance lower than the hole was before you added the tunnel, and the martins like the lower entrance.
