Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

Hahaha....

I was born in Tampa but mom moved to Kansas (which I love) by the time I was five. But seeing this...makes ya think....

Have a wonderful day!

Dave, I think the football team is not that great anymore. The only thing is the winter weather is what we all look for. This is the best time of the year. Summers here are hot and we do get them Hurricanes from time to time. The one thing I do miss is watching the 4 seasons.

James must be speaking for the football team in his part of the state. FSU is doing just fine this year! And I'm sure Deb will be VERY happy for us in February!

Do you mean martin arrivals? Some college football championship? Oh I know you too must be a KC Chief fan too and when we win the Superbowl!

I actually love the season changes. I love the crispness of cold air. I don't enjoy cold wind and ice though.

LOL Deb. I do mean martin arrivals! I hope FSU wins the championship, but martin arrivals are much more important to me. And we're finally getting a little chilly weather here.

Sure wish it would be a bit of nip in the air...we like seasonal changes here in SWFL also; however, this is the week we unpack our Super Gourds, make sure they are clean, put some pine straw in them, repaint the numbers on gourds, put them on the racks and wait for the first chirp...in the past we've had Martins on 12/21...don't get all excited...this isn't a contest for who can have the first Martin of the Year sighting...we just happened to be in the right spot at the right time
