Electric fence wire question

I need to extend the length of my under ground electric fence wire. what is needed to make the splice so that I can still bury it too? :oops:

I don’t have the perfect site. One open flyway with trees within 80 ft. I do have a small pond they utilize during the heat of Summer. (2017) HEAVY HAWK PREDATION

I am not sure what you mean. The electric fence is usually above ground, and it goes underground in places where you do not need an electric fence (like under a gate, going out to the purple martin poles etc.). I have never spliced the underground wire, so truthfully, I don't know. However, you need to make sure that the connection is solid and secure and that good contact is made between the wires and you have good insulation between the different wieres, that water cannot get to it, and you need to make sure that there is not a dissimilar metal problem which could cause corrision (and a poor contact). I hope that someone that has spliced underground wire can give you a better answer.

I believe there's a splice kit you can buy, some type of epoxy mix in a bag and you put the splice inside the bag. Check at your local electrical supply store.

I am needing to splice underground to underground. This will leave less of the exposed for someone or something to get shocked. I will Check with my Lo al hardware.

Emil is on the right track. Those kits work really well and if done correctly, will last a long time. I had one in the ground for over 20 years and it was working when I sold that property.

this splice kit is rated 600 volts max. You most likely have 2000 volts or more, should have insulation rated at what your charger is or more.

Another thing that might give more voltage protection for your splice kit is wire putty....(that's what I call it) it comes in a roll with a paper backing, you remove the paper and form it around the wire or in your case the splice kit. It's often used on powerline connections so it should work.
