Still have one

I still have one Martin that comes every evening at 8:18 and makes about two passes around the gourds and then goes in the last gourd that the young fledged from. You don't see the bird until that time and it goes right in the gourd with in two minutes of coming in the evening. I watch for it every evening and it is still returning a lone. My wife said she saw some high in the air yesterday about 10 AM. Just wondered why it has not lefted. Dave

We still have at least 8 of ours returning every night and going into the various compartments that are available. They all fledged at the end of July but they have returned every night so far. I expect they will leave in the next couple of days for one of the roosts in Minnesota.

I've read that they return to the nest site for one to two weeks after they fledge and that it takes one to two weeks for them to become independent. Perhaps those two are somehow related and they only return to the nest until they have become completely independent.

I have 5-7 flying at about 7-730 at night anf two go in a gourd also 32 landed on my houses yesterday maybe saying goodbye to me. I'm glad I keep my houses up till 9-30
