Over and over I have said these words to myself, and over and over I have regretted them as it cost another precious martin life.
I will install owl guards if it becomes a problem.
I will install snake netting if it becomes a problem.
I will put on wing entrapment guards if it becomes a problem.
This year I am not going to say 'I will replace that rusty cable if it becomes a problem'.
As we wind up our seasons and begin to make preparations for next year, let's all try to learn from others mistakes. I will certainly be replacing my rusty cable.
I'll deal with that if it becomes a problem.

Very good post, Wyatt - thank you! We've all said those words at some point. It's especially important to pay attention to ropes, cables, winches, pulleys, and keep them in good working condition, for our safety and for the martins'.
As the martin season winds down (though many landlords from TX on up still have some martins), it's a great time to discuss maintenance and improvements.

Speaking of preparing for next season, Creative Universe Enterprises (cuent) stopped selling the pulley guides for 2 inch square poles. Anyone know an alternative?

Can you not buy the pulley guide for the 3 in and replace bolts for shorter ones? Just a thought or make one if you can get the materials readily. True enough, good intentions aren't as rewarding as good actions. Good post. Hubert
