The recent storms in Kansas has bent my trio pole. My PM's have 4 active nest and are hanging in there. What type of pole should I buy and when should it be replaced?
Thanks in advance!!!

- Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.
Last Thursday? My family in McPherson had 89mph.
Have you checked the PMCA shop here online? Not sure how the different poles attach to different systems.
I am loving my new Trendsetter with the 2" square pole w winch. So easy to lower/raise. I feel it is sturdy for the big house up 14' in the air. I have seen people post they have a 3" pole. I have no idea where they get those.
Glad your house is still up and hope it hanfs in til the end.

The only commercial pole that will fit your house is another Trio pole, since it has to fit up through the house. If you want to switch to something heavier, you could convert to a multi-purpose pole and add another house to it, and have the option of adding gourds: http://shop.purplemartin.org/Multipurpo ... tails.aspx
Some landlords have reinforced their Trio poles by inserting a thinner piece of rebar or a second pole inside the Trio pole. You can avoid some damage by lowering system ahead of storms, but must secure house so it can't spin around the pole.

You pretty much have to stay with same round pole that came with the trio house because the hole it goes thru in the house fits that pole. My trio poles have bent in storms but they are pretty easy to straighten out somewhat after storms with help from a friend and some rope. The pole will be kinked but at least the pole and house is back up and probably get you thru the season. You can get pole sections from the manufacture or maybe from PMCA. I have extra pole sections in basement to replace bent sections after the season if I need to. I lower my castle and minicastle about 3-4 feet, down to the first seam when storms are coming. Makes a big difference. I've shoved pipe inside the trio poles to help stiffen and it helps but makes them a lot heavier to handle and move around.
