I am still trying to attract my first nesting pair of Martins and there are those days I get bummed from having to battle all the sparrows and starlings and getting PM visitors; but no takers. So it is nice when my special oriole shows up to get his daily treat of grape jelly.

We moved last year to 12 acres with a 1-1/2 acre pond in the front yard. They had a T-14 that was filled with Starlings. After 5 unsuccessful years at my other site we finally have a nesting pair.
Did you get any nesters this year? Do you play the Dawnsong?

Yep - I play the dawnsong plus the pm chatter. I have 7 PM decoys, 3 of which I carved myself. One even has its wings opened.
Last year I had a lot of visitors. I even thought I had a nesting pair; because I had one male adding green leaves to one of the T-14 compartments. I think he was trying to attract a mate but with no luck. This year I have not had that many visitors. I think it was because of the cold and raining weather IA had. I did have 3 ASY stop thru early I believe to get releaf from the cold weather. They stayed about 3 days.
I love being out in the country. I can use my 12 gauge on the sparrows and starlings. It is just frustrating that when you get one sparrow and/or starling another moves into its space.
My plan was that if I didn't have a nesting pair this year I was going to post photos of my site and let the PM graybeards provide me with they infinite knowledge in what I need to change.
One thing I have notice is that my speaker horns on mounted on my corn crib which is about 50 feet from my house and gourds. I find the PMs spend a lot of time by the speakers and not the house or gourds. So I am thinking that I will probably mount the horns on the T-14 house for next year.
I do have 2 bluebird families and 3 Tree swallow families living in bird houses throughout my property not to mention the numerous Barn Swallows making homes in my barn and corn crib; but it sure would be nice to get some PMs to nest.

We moved to a new house and over the first winter my son and I built a T-14. The first two seasons we had only an occasional visitor. This year I added four natural gourds with round holes. My first pair 'stuck' within a week of adding the gourds. It may not work for every site, and maybe these birds would've stuck anyway, but my feeble mind is convinced that the gourds made the difference.
