Martin Colony History: Landlord last year

After 8 years, a lot of trapping, shooting of the nasty birds and the death of a willow tree I can finally say I'm a landlord. Abner and Alice as I have named them, have produced their first egg. Hard work, perseverance, and sound advice from the forum does pay off.
Never give up! :P

That's fantastic, sure hope this is a sign that the new sites out there are about to receive their founding breeders. Maybe June is going to be the month this year for new beginnings. Thanks for the post, enjoy and take good care of them.

Martin Colony History: Taking care of 11 active public colonies and trying to start two more in northwestern PA. Also attempting to restart another one in southwestern PA, in Collier Township's Hilltop Park. In 2017, not sure what happened but the ASY male returned and then a couple of weeks later he was gone. It could have been weather related. No other birds showed up. I had a starling nesting at the Public site that I had trouble getting rid of.
In 2018, we fledged 629 martins at all of the sites.

It sure is nice after such a long time of trying. Hope they pull in a couple more pair for you in the next week or two.

It is a lot of hard work keeping martin sites attractive to martins. Things should get a little easier as the years go on.

Martin Colony History: 22 year landlord, 14 at current residence..offering 9 racks and a homemade T-8 for 166 total cavities. 160 Pair in 2018 Racks consist of a Deluxe 12, AAA 16, Starburst 16, 2 K-18 Series, Super 24, 2 Gemini, Multi-purpose/two trio’s/4gourds and a T-8..Great hobby to be involved in..

Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

I chuckled out loud to what Ed said. It is so true. I am happy for you!

I'm not a landlord yet but I did have 5 birds all over the T-14 this morning going in and out of different cavities and one of the gourds hanging down. I also had 3 others fighting over one gourd on a gourd rack near our front porch. The one SY male has been persistent in hanging out the past 3 weeks and it appears he has brought many friends with him.

I love all the activity!!!!! I can't imagine how I'll act if they actually lay eggs!!!! :P :P :P
