According to the arrival map and past experience the middle Feb is when the PMs show up here. I was beginning to believe that I had been bypassed altogether until the last week in April. Right now there are five or six pairs nesting in the house and gourds. Can anyone explain why they are so late? Not complaining you see, just perplexed. :grin:

Martin Colony History: Had my site up to 22 gourds of which most (+/-3) stayed occupied.
Downsized to 17 gourds due to back surgeries. Had 14 families in 2017 but did not do nest checks due to health. Feeling better in 2018 and hoping for a good year.

No explanations.....just a comment....wow! While I was reading I was thinking to myself you must be up north....then I saw FLORIDA! Boy, I would have thought they passed me by totally too. I had PM's by Feb. 8th. That is really strange for Florida isn't it????? Maybe someone who knows will jump in soon. Glad you got some after all though!!!! Good luck.

Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

Have you had any storms that might have displaced some? Maybe that caused them to seek housing and start all over. Are they adults?
