One nest has its first egg this morning but its unusually small. Has anyone else seen this happen? Will it hatch?

No if the egg is very small it will not hatch, and that is a good thing! The hen may be old , or young, sometimes a young hens first egg can be small! It is unusual but it happens. Just leave it in the nest until the hen lays her clutch, then you can remove it.

This afternoon the little egg was gone, but two of the three eggs in another nest are gone as well. No signs of egg shells. Some starlings were visiting after a storm this afternoon but the house has starling resistant openings. There are sparrows but they have their own level. Its a martin mystery!

House Sparrows will not stay on their own level. You need to eliminate them or you will have this potential problem as long as they are there.
