Hello everyone,
In general for those of you that have active colonies, are you finding the SY migration to be normal, early or late this year?
I've been anxiously waiting now for 5 weeks since April 1st when the scouts or ASY birds first appear and was kinda of thinking I would have seen a second year bird in the last week or so with the Dawnsong playing but haven't seen a thing?
Thanks for any input.
Mitch

If you look at scout arrival numbers for a couple of previous years, adult reports tend to top out at about 3500, subadult reports at close to 500 - not very many landlords report them, but we hope more landlords will make an effort to do so.
Things are running later this year, the recurring fronts that brought cold and rain to the middle and southern regions in April, especially, shut down migration and egg laying. But, migration lasts until the end of June, and with 7 weeks to go, we will certainly see subadult and adult reports continue to grow over the coming weeks.
We are still seeing evening arrivals of groups of migrants here - and they are all headed north.

I wouldn't worry too much yet - I am still picking up ASY birds here in Central Ohio, and just last evening heard a large runcas at dawn which I believe to be my first arrivals of sub-adults. I will confirm this morning, but you still have weeks to attract birds - keep us posted!

Greetings,
A large group of subs this morning in mid Missouri, over 100 birds! Amazing to see so many in a group, a first for us to see! It will be interesting to see if any stay with our colony of 40 birds as we still have some rooms available in the T 14's.
Happy Mother's Day to all of the Martin Mom's!

I got my first ever visit by a SY today.. I don't know if he checked out the gourds or not....when I came home he was sitting on the power line .. when I got out of the car he was gone, I sure hope he comes back. My rack has been up 3 years and this is the first one I have seen.
