I was outside working in the garden this afternoon when I heard Martins chirping. I saw two martins flying about the martin house and zipping all around the property and swooping along the river. I had left the doors on the house to keep the sparrows out so ran to take the house down and remove the doors. Of course the martins disappeared. However have seen a male back on the house and checking out some of the compartments
I will be keeping my eyes peeled the next few days to watch for the return of more of my friends.

2012 - 1 nest, 4 eggs, 4 fledged
2013 - 3 nests (1st nest 3 eggs, 2nd nest 2 eggs,
3rd nest 0 eggs) 5 fledged

2014 - No luck yet... Not seeing many martins in the area.
2013 - First year trying. I've done everything to attract PM's except giving them free airfare to get here. Maybe I'll do that too !!!

Funny that they showed up after that little post of yours early today! :grin: Glad you reported back. I had figured that all the SYs were back in Ontario since there hasn't been an addition to the scout report since April 29th. Good to know that they are still coming in. Good luck. I hope they settle in.

Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

These incredible birds. It would be neat to see Canada birds with a geolocator. Wonder how long their migration takes? I hope they are all around tomorrow with even more!

Hi Ontario from Alberta. The martins are just starting to arrive here. I hope with the warmer temps this weekend we will get more. In the past 4 days we have now 4 pairs. Its a grand site coming all the way from Brazil...omg...I would be pretty tired too.

2009 - 2 pair - 9 eggs- 9 fledged
2010 - 1ASY pair and 4SY pair total 10 bird
2011 first ASY pair May 06
2012 first pair arrived May 01, May 21 total 10 pairs 49 babies
2013 May 04 martins 2 pair May 19 total 12 pair
2014 May 08 2 pair May 12 almost full 10 pair
