I am a wannabe landlord. I am playing the dawnsong from 4AM to 8PM. I have yet to even see a martin.
Once I have a visitor when should I stop the dawnsong? When should I start it again, if ever?

2015 - Still no martins
2014 - No luck yet... Not seeing many martins in the area.
2013 - First year trying. I've done everything to attract PM's except giving them free airfare to get here. Maybe I'll do that too !!!

, I used to play it all the time even when Martin's where here. I would play it until it wears out... Good Luck on getting some and don't stop trying.

I see you have very good housing, and that Blaine's sparrow trap is a dandy! Do you live in a martin rich area? You say you haven't seen a martin at all with playing the dawn song. If a martin was to fly over your property would it see your T14? Martins have very good sight, they have very large eyes, and excellent hearing most birds do. I have a different view of the dawn song from most on this forum. First of all I have never used the dawn song, I never had to. If I was to play it I would use a clear CD . I would play it from about 4:20am to around not later than 5:30am, that is when the martins sing it at my colony, then all is quite! Around 7:am they begin making a lot of noise, the day time chatter, and that can go on for most of the morning and into the afternoon, and again when they come back in the evening. I would play the daytime chatter from 7:am to dusk. I would play these CD's at a the same volume as a colony of martins would make let's say 100 birds. I can hear my colony for many blocks away, when all is quit at 7:am, and the martins are chattering. I get up with the dawn singers, I love their bubbly tunes. I doubt there is a benefit to playing the dawn song all day long, and at a volume one would hear at a rock concert. I believe once you crank the volume, you are also distorting the song. Birds don't sing that loud. After you have martins, you no longer need play these two CD's
