this is my 11th year as a PM landlord and at present (my last PM's usually arrive late May) I only have 20-25 pairs of PM's. The last two years I had at LEAST 40-45 pair, but have NEVER had a decrease in PM numbers from one year to the next. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them?? Any idea why?? Thanks for any input....

I can't say for sure, but migration here has been very slow in relation to recent years.

Mine were two weeks late this year and it looks like I'll be 15-20 pair short of last year unless I get a serious influx in the next week or so....
The weather has been bad here in Kansas, but right now I have between 16 and 20 individual birds. I can't tell who is paired up and who isn't because they've been spending so much time congregating in just a few compartments to keep warm.
Last hear, I had 26 pairs, and only one of those pairs was SY. So I only have half as many birds as I did last year. I consider my colony to be well established. If they don't show up in the next couple of days I'm going to have to assume that they all died during migration. My mother lives across the street and had 10 pairs last year. She doesn't have a single martin back. Normally I'm near capacity by this time of year and she has all her birds back.

Sorry to hear you are also having bad luck this year......hard to know what is really going on. Maybe some died in South America while living down there...

Our location is fairly established here in Central Texas.
This year, there were a few early birds that nested here last year and they have been trickling in since the first scout on Feb 10.
The subbies just started showing up in the last week making things less than calm around here.
I had just erected a new rack about 3 weeks ago with 16 additional gourds and there is quite a bit of activty going on at that rack with the subbies who haven't been able to fight their way into the other racks.
Seems like the early birds were really early and the subbies have been dragging in.
